Neoprene Gloves

Get a Grip

When you go spearfishing you will need to take a pair of neoprene gloves with you. Neoprene gloves will help to protect your hands from the many sharp things you will encounter while spearfishing. Neoprene gloves come in many different variations so here are some tips to help you choose the right pair:
  • Make sure you choose neoprene gloves – gloves made out of other materials e.g., leather, will rot in seawater so don’t waste your time there...
  • Neoprene gloves for spearfishing need to be nice and snug on your hands with minimal space so you can handle fish, feel your knife etc.
  • Make sure you get a pair that has some tough material on the palm and underside of your fingers – neoprene by itself is not sufficient to stop your hand getting spiked by fish spines! There are plenty of neoprene gloves that come with a reinforced material e.g., kevlar on the palm for this purpose. Make sure the reinforcing is not too heavy – you still need to have good feel for your knife and your trigger finger!
Neoprene gloves not only protect your hands against sharp things in the water but also keep your hands warm when the water is cold – this is a real bonus as there are many fiddly things you will need to do with your neoprene gloves while you are spearfishing. Next time you go for a dive – don’t forget to put in your neoprene gloves!
